Update Graph API Client Secret
A client secret in the context of Microsoft Graph refers to a password that an application uses to authenticate with the Microsoft identity platform.
A client secret is required as part of the Microsoft Authentication Framework for an application to access resources in Office 365.
Client Secrets expire after a period of time. The maximum time a client secret is valid for is 24 months.
To update the client secret the follow these steps:
STEP 1 - obtain the existing Application ID from Azure portal
- Select App registrations from the Azure portal
- Locate the existing app registration for fax servers
- Select the app registration for fax servers
- Copy the value 'Application (Client) ID and save into a safe location.
STEP 2 - locate the Client Secret section in Azure
- Select Certificates and secrets (located under the Manage section) of the app registration
- Do not touch the existing client secret
- Create a new client secret


- Copy the new Client Secret value and store in a safe location for later use.
STEP 3 - Update Fax Server settings
- Schedule a change request
- Login to the fax server. (repeat for each fax server which uses this client secret)
- Run the msXfax console


- Select 'Edit Application Id/Secret
- The existing values will be removed
- Supply the values that you saved earlier in this article
- Press Apply
- Run an elevated command prompt
- FAXSTOP
- Check that all fax services are stopped in Services Control Manager (Services.msc)
- FAXSTART
- Confirm that all fax services start
- Send a test fax from Outlook to confirm that the fax was processed by the Graph Service: Office365 via Graph
- Allow 2 minutes
- If nothing happened check the Graph service log
