Manual update of MSOLEDB Driver for SQL Server

Microsoft released an updated version (19.3.3) of its OLEDB driver for SQL Server on 9th April 2024

Version 19.3.3 fixes known vulnerabilities identified by Microsoft October 2023.   

Customers with older versions of the driver can perform a manual update to the driver.

• Later versions must be checked by BNS. 
• Previous releases of the driver are located on Microsoft web site Release notes for OLE DB Driver - OLE DB Driver for SQL Server | Microsoft Learn
• A pre-requisite for the driver is deployment of Microsoft Visual Studio C++ redistributable.    That will already be on your Fax Server.
• We recommend that you update  Microsoft Visual Studio C++ redistributable both 32 bit and 64 bit to the latest versions available at Latest supported Visual C++ Redistributable downloads | Microsoft Learn

Steps to Update Microsoft Visual Studio C++ re-distributable 

• Access Microsoft web site Latest supported Visual C++ Redistributable downloads | Microsoft Learn
• Download the highlighted setups (exe) from the Microsoft web site 
• Stop all fax services before applying any updates below

• Follow Microsoft's instructions to install the above installer executables

Steps to update the Microsoft OLEDB Driver for SQL Server

• Go to Microsoft web site Download Microsoft OLE DB Driver for SQL Server - OLE DB Driver for SQL Server | Microsoft Learn
• Download version 19.3.3 
• Login with full admin permissions to the server
• Stop all fax services before applying any updates below
• Copy to the server the download file usually called msoledbsql.msi to the fax server
• Follow Microsoft documentation documented at Installing OLE DB Driver for SQL Server - OLE DB Driver for SQL Server | Microsoft Learn
• You may not need to reboot the system
